Accessibility Settings on Vome

Accessibility Settings on Vome

1. What are Accessibility Settings?

Accessibility Settings is a built-in toolkit that lets every Vome user personalize how the platform looks and behaves to suit their individual needs.

Your preferences are saved to your account and automatically apply across all your devices. Update your settings on the web and they will reflect on the mobile app the next time it loads, and vice versa.

2. Who can use Accessibility Settings?

Every user on Vome has access to Accessibility Settings, regardless of their plan or role. This includes volunteers, organization admins, and all other user types. No upgrade or special permission is required.

3. Where do I find Accessibility Settings?

On the web:

  • Look for the accessibility icon (a person figure) in the top navigation bar, to the right of the Help button
  • Click it to open the Accessibility Settings panel, which slides in from the right side of the screen
  • Changes are applied instantly and saved automatically

On the mobile app (iOS and Android):

  • Open the Settings screen from the navigation menu
  • Scroll to the Accessibility section at the bottom
  • Tap "Accessibility Settings"
  • Changes are applied instantly and saved automatically

4. What can I customize?

Display

  • Color Scheme: Choose between System (follows your device's light/dark mode), Light, or Dark mode
  • High Contrast: Increases the contrast across the interface for sharper text and more defined borders. Can be combined with any color scheme

Font

All font settings range from 75% to 200% in 25% increments:

  • Page Zoom: Scales the entire page proportionally. Text, spacing, icons, and layout all grow or shrink together
  • Line Height: Controls vertical spacing between lines of text
  • Letter Spacing: Controls horizontal spacing between individual characters
  • Word Spacing: Controls horizontal spacing between words

Motion

  • Reduce Motion: Disables all animations and transitions across the platform. Page elements appear and disappear instantly. Smooth scrolling is replaced with instant jumps. This is designed for users with vestibular disorders or motion sensitivity

Highlights (Web only)

  • None: No reading highlight applied
  • Line: Adds a subtle underline beneath the element you are currently hovering over, acting as a reading guide
  • Word: Highlights individual text elements with a soft background when you hover over them

Cursor Size (Web only)

  • Choose between Default, Large, or Extra Large for improved cursor visibility

Reading Tools

  • Screen Reader Optimized: Enhances the page structure for assistive technologies like VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, and JAWS

5. Does dark mode apply to the entire platform?

Yes. Dark mode applies to the entire Vome interface, including navigation, sidebars, content areas, forms, tables, cards, and all other elements. Photos, logos, and profile images are automatically preserved so they display correctly.

6. Can I use dark mode and high contrast at the same time?

Yes. High contrast can be combined with any color scheme. When both are active, the contrast boost is applied on top of dark or light mode for maximum readability.

7. Will increasing page zoom break the layout?

No. Page zoom scales everything proportionally, including text, spacing, icons, buttons, and containers. Layouts remain intact at all zoom levels up to 200%.

8. What does Reduce Motion do exactly?

It disables all CSS animations and transitions across the platform. Page elements appear and disappear instantly instead of fading or sliding in. Smooth scrolling is also replaced with instant jumps. This setting is designed for users with vestibular disorders or motion sensitivity.

9. Why don't reading highlights or cursor size work on mobile?

Both of these features rely on mouse input, which does not exist on touch devices. Reading highlights use mouse hover events, and cursor size only applies to devices with a physical cursor. Neither setting is available in the mobile interface, but both are still saved to your account and will apply when you access Vome from a desktop or laptop browser.

10. Do my settings sync between my devices?

Yes. Your accessibility preferences are stored on your Vome account. Any change you make on the web is automatically available on the mobile app the next time it loads, and vice versa.

11. Will my settings be saved if I log out?

Yes. Your preferences are permanently saved to your account. When you log back in, all your accessibility settings will be restored exactly as you left them.

12. How do I reset everything back to the defaults?

Scroll to the bottom of the Accessibility Settings panel on the web, or the Accessibility Settings screen on mobile, and tap or click "Reset All Accessibility Settings." This instantly restores all settings to their defaults.

13. Is Accessibility Settings available in French?

Yes. All labels, descriptions, and buttons within Accessibility Settings are fully available in both English and French, following your Vome language preference.
