How Do Auto-Generated Chats Work on Vome?

How Do Auto-Generated Chats Work on Vome?

Vome can create and run a chat on its own for each category, opportunity, shift, group, and site. Every chat keeps its own member list up to date, adding and removing people automatically as their status changes, so you never have to build or maintain the roster by hand.

1. What are auto-generated chats?

They are chats that Vome creates and maintains for you. When you enable them for a part of your program, Vome opens a chat and keeps its membership in sync with that item. As people are approved, assigned, or removed, they are added to or removed from the chat automatically.

2. Which parts of my program can have an automatic chat?

Five types: Sites, Categories, Opportunities, Shifts, and Groups.

3. Where do I set the organization-wide defaults?

Go to the Chats page, click the gear icon (Chat settings), and open Auto-generated chats. You will see a card for each of the five types. Each card gives you the same controls:

  • Auto-create for new (on the Sites, Categories, and Groups cards): when set to Enabled, every new one of that type starts its chat automatically.
  • Apply to existing: use Enable all or Disable all to switch chat on or off for everything of that type at once.
  • The manage button, which reads Manage (or shows a live count, for example "5 enabled · Manage"). It opens a picker with a Search by name box, an on or off toggle for each item, and a Done button.

4. Which chats are on by default?

Sites, categories, and groups are off by default, so you choose when to turn them on. Opportunity and shift chats are on by default and are created when an opportunity is published. That is why the Opportunities and Shifts cards have no Auto-create for new switch, only Enable all, Disable all, and Manage. Shift chats are set per opportunity and apply to all of that opportunity's shifts.

5. How do I turn chat on for a single site, group, or category?

When you create or edit the item, look for the Communication section and turn on the chat toggle. The label matches the item you are editing:

  • Groups: Enable group-level chat.
  • Sites: Enable site-level chat.
  • Categories: Enable category-level chat. Every profile approved for at least one opportunity in the category is added automatically, and new approvals keep syncing in.

Once the toggle is on, an Announcements only (admins post) sub-toggle appears. If the item already has a chat, an Open chat link also shows so you can jump straight in.

6. Do I have to add people to these chats myself?

No. Membership is kept in sync for you. People are added when they qualify and removed when they no longer do.

7. Why do some opportunities already have a chat when I did not turn one on?

Opportunity and shift chats are on by default, so they are created automatically when an opportunity is published. You can turn them off from the Opportunities or Shifts card in Auto-generated chats.
