Shift Tags are colored labels your organization can attach to shifts on your schedule. They are an admin and scheduling tool that lets you categorize, color-code, filter, and report on shifts. Common examples include "Setup," "Cleanup," "Needs Lead," "Holiday," and "Training."
Each tag has a name plus two optional custom colors: a background color and a font color. These colors let tagged shifts stand out visually on your calendar. Tags belong only to your organization, so the tag list you manage is always specific to your account.
Admins manage tags from the web app under Schedule, then Manage Shift Tags. From there you can:
Existing tags appear as colored chips so you can preview how they will look. If you do not set colors, the tag shows in a neutral gray.
Tags are attached to shifts, not to Opportunities or roles. The relationship is many-to-many: a shift can carry multiple tags, and a tag can be applied to many shifts.
You can assign tags in two places in the web app:
You can also set tags on Shift Templates and Shift Series. A template's tags carry over to every shift it generates. Individual shifts in a series can override the inherited tags, and the system remembers those per-shift changes so series-wide edits do not overwrite them.
Tag colors override a shift's normal color (which usually comes from its Opportunity or role color).
If a shift has several tags, the first tag that has colors set is the one that drives the display. That tag's background color becomes the shift block's background, and its font color becomes the left-border accent and text color. On the calendar view, a tagged shift shows a colored background with a colored left border. On the list view, the shift's text and accent line take the tag's colors.
Coloring is optional. If a tag has no colors, or a shift has no tags, the shift falls back to its base Opportunity or role color.
Yes. The Schedule supports four tag filter modes:
You can also save these tag filters into Schedule Custom Views, so you can build a reusable view such as "all Cleanup shifts."
Yes. The Volunteer Bookings report includes a dedicated Shift Tags column that lists the tag names on each booked shift (it shows "N/A" when there are none). Analytics can also group by shift tag and filter by shift tag, so you can break hours and bookings down per tag, for example comparing volunteer hours on Setup shifts versus Cleanup shifts.
Not at this time. Shift Tags are currently an internal admin and scheduling tool. They are not shown to Users on the volunteer schedule, and they are not available in the mobile app. If User-facing visibility is something you would like, let our team know.
