How to Privatize a Shift Within an Opportunity

How to Privatize a Shift Within an Opportunity

You can make a shift private in Vome by restricting its visibility to only users with a specific profile tag. This is useful when you want to make a shift available to select volunteers only, such as for internal staff or special assignments.

Follow these steps to create a Private Shift:

Step 1: Create a "Private shift" Profile Tag

  1. Go to your Database.

  2. Navigate to the Actions button on the top-right

  3. Click on Manage profile tag

  4. Name the tag Private shift (or anything else).

  5. Save the tag.

💡 You can assign this tag to volunteers later who should have access to the private shift.

Step 2: Create the Shift with Advanced Reservation Restrictions

  1. Go to Schedule > Click + Create shifts on the top left to open the shift generator and create a new batch of shifts.

  2. Select the Opportunity where you want the private shift to be posted.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the shift creation form to find the Advanced Reservation Restrictions section.

  4. Under "Users must have all of the following profile tags," select the Private shift tag.

  5. Finish creating the shift as usual.

Result: Only Tagged Users Can See the Shift

Only users who:

  • Are assigned to the opportunity, and

  • Have the Private shift tag in their profile

will be able to view and register for the shift.

If no users are assigned the Private shift tag, the shift will be completely hidden — making it truly private.

Use Cases

  • Internal staff shifts

  • Invite-only volunteer roles

  • Pilot or beta testing sessions

  • Shifts requiring additional training or clearance
