Without a connected domain these are unavailable, so a message to two hundred people is a message that greets all two hundred the same way.

Plan your templates around no attachments, no placeholders and no delivery tracking, then connect the domain when your IT team can reach your DNS records. Nothing you build in the meantime is wasted.
Early, before you send anything real.
Connecting later does not retroactively add tracking or placeholders to messages already sent, and templates written without placeholders have to be rewritten to use them. The work is the same either way, so doing it first saves you doing it twice.
