The E-Learning sequence step in Vome

What is the E-Learning step type in a sequence?

Overview

The E-Learning step runs an interactive online training module inside a sequence. It is powered by SCORM Cloud, so if your training already exists as a SCORM package you can drop it straight into Vome rather than rebuilding it.

1. What is the E-Learning step?

It is a SCORM package uploaded to a step. The user launches the module from the step and works through it without leaving Vome, their progress is saved as they go so they can stop and come back, and completion comes back to the step automatically.

2. What do I need before I add one?

The SCORM Cloud integration has to be connected to your account first. You will find SCORM Cloud in your integrations settings.

Info
The step picker tells you if you are not connected: clicking E-Learning without the SCORM Cloud integration in place opens a short explainer about SCORM instead of the step popup. That is the signal to set up the integration first, not an error.

3. How do I add one?

  1. Open Sequences in the left-hand navigation and open the sequence you are building.

  2. Click + Add a step.

  3. Choose E-Learning.

  4. Pick an entry under ADD A PREVIOUSLY SAVED ENTRY, or click New to create one.

  5. Enter a title, then Upload a SCORM-compliant .zip package.

  6. Save.

4. What is a SCORM package?

SCORM is an industry-standard format for e-learning content that tracks progress and completion. A SCORM package is a .zip file exported from an authoring tool, and most e-learning tools can produce one. If your training is a single video or a set of lessons you would rather build in Vome, you do not need SCORM at all.

5. What does the user see?

The user sees the step title and description, and launches the module from the step. It runs in Vome, and their progress is kept as they move through it, so a long module does not have to be finished in one sitting.

6. How does the step get marked complete?

This step runs Pending, then Complete. Completion syncs back from SCORM Cloud, so you can let the step complete automatically as soon as the module is finished. Keep the manual completion instead if you want to check the result on the e-learning platform before the status changes.

7. Where do I see detailed results?

In SCORM Cloud. Vome holds the completion status against the step and the person, which is what the sequence needs. The per-question and per-module detail lives in SCORM Cloud's own reporting.

8. E-Learning or Course?

They solve the same problem from opposite directions:

  • Use E-Learning when the training already exists as a SCORM package, or when your team authors content in a SCORM tool.

  • Use Course when you want to build and maintain the training inside Vome, keep the results in Vome, and gate the sequence on a pass mark. Courses require the Enterprise or Ultimate plan.

Summary

  • E-Learning steps run SCORM packages inside Vome, powered by SCORM Cloud.

  • The SCORM Cloud integration has to be connected first.

  • Upload the training as a SCORM-compliant .zip package.

  • Progress is saved as the user goes, and completion syncs back to the step.

  • Detailed analytics stay in SCORM Cloud, and Course is the better choice for training built in Vome.
