The Training sequence step in Vome

What is the Training step type in a sequence?

Overview

The Training step points a user at training they have to complete and holds the record that they completed it. The training itself does not live on this step, so think of it as instructions plus a completion record. When you want the training to run inside Vome and be verified automatically, a different step type is the better fit.

1. What is the Training step?

It is a title, a description, and an optional attachment. The description is where you say what the training is, where to find it, and how long it takes. It can link out to anything you already use, such as an external learning platform, a video, a slide deck or a shared document.

2. How do I add one?

  1. Open Sequences in the left-hand navigation and open the sequence you are building.

  2. Click + Add a step.

  3. Choose Trainings.

  4. Pick an entry under ADD A PREVIOUSLY SAVED ENTRY, or click New to create one.

  5. Enter the title and description, attach the training material if you have a file for it, then save.

Caution
Nothing is verified on this step: Vome has no way of knowing whether the training was actually done. The completion is somebody's word for it, either yours or the user's. If that matters for your records, use one of the step types below instead.

3. Which step type should I use for training?

Four step types can deliver training, and they differ in how much Vome can prove:

  • Training, when the material lives somewhere else and a manual completion is good enough.

  • Video, when the training is one video. Vome plays it in the step and can require the user to watch it through before the step completes.

  • Course, when the training has several lessons and a pass mark. Built and hosted in your Courses module, and available on the Enterprise and Ultimate plans.

  • E-Learning, when you already have SCORM packages. The module runs in Vome and completion syncs back from SCORM Cloud.

4. What does the user see?

The user sees the step title, your description with any links you added, and a download button if you attached a file. There is nothing to upload or submit.

5. How does the step get marked complete?

This step runs Pending, then Complete. Depending on the step's settings, either you mark it complete, or the user marks themselves complete with a Mark as complete button once they have finished the training.

6. How do I add a knowledge check?

Add a Fillable form step after the training and put your questions on the form. Every answer comes back as data you can search, filter and report on, and you can see exactly who answered what.

Info
Scored quizzes need a plan: collecting the answers on a form works on every plan. Turning that form into a scored quiz, with right answers and a result, requires the Enterprise or Ultimate plan.

Summary

  • Training steps carry instructions and links to material hosted elsewhere.

  • Nothing on the step is verified by Vome, so the completion is manual.

  • Use Video, Course or E-Learning when the training should run inside Vome and be tracked.

  • Statuses run Pending, then Complete, marked by you or by the user.

  • Add a Fillable form step for a knowledge check, and Enterprise or Ultimate to score it.
