An opportunity is what people are approved to, so almost every visibility question in Vome traces back to how you built one. The shape you choose here is also the hardest thing to change later, because reversing it means moving each opportunity by hand.

This page gathers the articles that settle those decisions. They live in the Setup Guide section of this knowledge base, and cover what to choose and why. The rest of this section covers how to do it.

1. What should I read before I add an opportunity?

• How is Vome structured? How organization, site, category, opportunity and shift nest, and why a category is only a folder that nobody is ever assigned to.
• Should I organize by program or by event? The single decision that shapes the rest of your account, including what a shift means inside it.
• Auto-approve an opportunity or auto-assign on a form: which do I need? Two settings that sound alike and behave very differently. Reaching for the wrong one approves people for things they never asked for.
• What are shift policies, and which do I need? The reusable rules that hang off the shifts inside your opportunity: waitlist, notifications, group reservations and form submissions.

2. Why are those articles somewhere else?

An article in this knowledge base can only be filed in one section, so the Setup Guide holds them and this page links to them rather than repeating them. You will find them under For administrators, in the Setup Guide, stages 1 and 4.
