Why Won't a Vome Link Open When I'm Using a VPN?

If a Vome registration, form, or opportunity link will not open while you are connected to a VPN, the most likely cause is a tracker-blocking or ad-blocking feature built into your VPN. This guide explains why it happens and how to fix it.

Why this happens

Vome links use a secure redirect service to send you to the correct page, such as a form, an opportunity, or a shift. Some VPNs include an ad-blocking or "threat protection" feature that mistakes this redirect for a tracker and blocks it before the page can load.

When that happens, the link may hang, fail to load, or never reach the page you were trying to open. Regular websites may keep working normally at the same time, which can make the problem confusing. This is the most common reason a link works for most people but not for one person.

Features that commonly cause this

The issue is usually tied to a tracker or ad-blocking setting rather than the VPN itself. Common examples include:

  • NordVPN Threat Protection or CyberSec

  • Surfshark CleanWeb

  • Proton VPN NetShield

  • iCloud Private Relay

  • Other ad blockers or tracker blockers, such as browser extensions or network-level blockers

How to fix it

Try these steps in order. The first one resolves the issue in most cases.

  1. Turn off your VPN, or just its ad-blocking or tracker-blocking feature, then open the link. Once the page has loaded, you can turn the VPN back on.

  2. Open the link in a different browser, or in a private or incognito window.

  3. Open the link on your phone using mobile data, with Wi-Fi turned off, instead of the VPN.

  4. If the link still will not open, contact your organization or our support team. Let us know which browser you are using and whether a VPN or ad blocker is turned on.

A note on shared connections

VPNs sometimes route your connection through a shared IP address. Security systems occasionally flag these shared addresses, which can trigger a verification step such as a CAPTCHA, or temporarily block access. The steps above usually resolve this as well.

Still not working?
