Emails can handle formatting.
In an email, you can use things like bold text, line breaks, and clickable links. That’s why your email can look nicely styled and easier to scan.
Push notifications are text-only.
A push notification is meant to be fast and simple. It shows only plain text on someone’s phone. That means:
no bold or special styling
no underlined or clickable links
no extra spacing or multiple lines showing clearly
So even if you add formatting when writing the message, the push will still display just the words.
If your message says:
Your shift starts at 2 p.m. tomorrow
Here is a link to register for cancellation:
Register here
Email view:
shows the spacing
shows “Register here” as a clickable link
Push view:
There will not be any break between lines
The link/styling won’t come through the same way
Because of this difference, we suggest making two versions of your message:
1) Email version (full detail + styling)
clear spacing
bold highlights
full explanation
clickable links
2) Push version (short + simple)
one line if possible
only the most important info
no “extra” text that depends on formatting
Example push rewrite:
Shift starts tomorrow at 2 PM, check your email for details.
