How Does the Sterling Volunteers Integration Work on Vome?

Overview

Sterling Volunteers is a background check provider that helps organizations manage and track volunteer background checks.

Vome has partnered with Sterling Volunteers to integrate background checks directly into the Vome platform. This integration allows organizations to add background check steps into volunteer sequences and track completion and status updates automatically.

How the Integration Works

Background Checks in Sequences

  • Background checks are added as steps within Vome’s Sequences module.

  • When a volunteer reaches a background check step, they are redirected to Sterling Volunteers to complete the process.

  • After completion, the volunteer is redirected back to Vome.

  • Administrators are notified when the background check step is completed.

Ongoing Background Check Monitoring

Sterling Volunteers includes automatic follow-up background checks:

  • Once a background check is purchased, Sterling Volunteers runs monthly follow-up checks for 12 months.

  • Any updates or changes to a volunteer’s background check status are automatically sent to Vome.

  • Vome continues to receive and reflect these updates without additional action.

Viewing Status as an Administrator

When viewing a sequence:

  • Click on a volunteer who has completed the background check.

  • You will see:

    • The Sterling Volunteers background check status

    • The Vome step status (pending or complete)

    • The date the step was completed

How to Enable the Sterling Volunteers Integration

Step 1: Navigate to Integrations

  1. Use the left-hand navigation in Vome.

  2. Click Integrations and Apps.

  3. Locate Sterling Volunteers and click on it.

Step 2: Start the Integration

  1. Click Start Integration.

  2. Enter your Sterling Volunteers API credentials.

  3. If you do not have API credentials, contact the Sterling Volunteers team to obtain them.

Once enabled, the integration will be active on your Vome account.

How to Create a Background Check Step

Step 1: Go to Sequences

  1. Navigate to the Sequences page in Vome.

  2. Click the Actions button in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Background Check.

Step 2: Configure the Step

  1. Enter a title and description for the background check step.

  2. Add the Package ID provided by Sterling Volunteers.

    • If you do not have a Package ID, contact the Sterling Volunteers team.

Using Multiple Background Check Packages

  • You can create multiple background check steps using different Package IDs.

  • This is useful if your organization uses different background check packages for different volunteer roles or sequences.

  • Each background check step can be added to sequences as needed.

Adding the Background Check to a Sequence

Once created:

  • Add the background check step to any sequence like any other step type.

  • Volunteers will complete the background check as part of their normal sequence flow.

Summary

  • Sterling Volunteers is integrated directly into Vome sequences.

  • Volunteers are redirected to complete background checks and returned to Vome automatically.

  • Administrators receive completion notifications and ongoing status updates.

  • Monthly background check monitoring continues for 12 months.

  • Setup and management are handled entirely within Vome once credentials and Package IDs are configured.
