Can minors or youth volunteer through Vome?

Vome is built for adult users and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. To support this, whenever an organization collects age or date of birth through a form on Vome, the platform prevents a date of birth from being entered for anyone under 13 years old.

This means a child under 13 cannot create their own self-managed account on Vome. Youth can still take part in your Opportunities, but participation is handled by a parent, a guardian, or the organization rather than by the youth directly. The options below explain how.

Why can't a minor under 13 register on Vome?

Vome does not knowingly collect information from minors under the age of 13. When age or date of birth is collected through a form, the platform restricts entries so that a date of birth younger than 13 cannot be submitted. This helps protect young participants and keeps your organization aligned with data privacy standards.

How can youth still participate?

There are three main ways to include youth in your Opportunities:

  • A parent or guardian signs up on behalf of their child.
  • A parent or guardian adds the child as a guest on a group reservation.
  • The organization creates and manages a profile for the youth directly.

Each option is explained below.

Option 1: A parent or guardian signs up on behalf of their child

A parent or guardian can create their own account and register on behalf of their child. In this case, the parent or guardian:

  • Fills out the information required by the organization.
  • Coordinates directly with the organization about the child's participation.

The adult remains the responsible account holder while the child takes part in the activity.

Option 2: A parent or guardian adds the child as a group reservation guest

If the organization allows group reservations, a parent or guardian can create a group reservation and add the child as a guest.

When adding guests, the parent or guardian provides high-level information such as the first name and last name of each person attending with them. This lets the whole group be accounted for under a single reservation, without each youth needing their own account.

Option 3: The organization manages the profile directly

An organization can manage youth participation from its own account. From the admin side, the organization can:

  • Create a profile in its database.
  • Store the information it needs for that participant.
  • Slot the profile into the appropriate Opportunity.

This lets the organization keep accurate records while managing the youth's information offline, according to its own policies.

What do you recommend for youth who want to volunteer?

If a young person would like to volunteer, we recommend one of the following:

  • Contact the organization directly so they can create and manage the profile offline, or
  • Have a parent or guardian sign up, complete the process, and include the youth as a guest on a group reservation (where the organization allows it).

Either approach lets the youth take part while keeping the platform compliant and your records accurate.
